Many of the Scriptural Truths preached by Brother William Branham have proven to be just as controversial as the Truths which Jesus taught in the days of His flesh. Likewise, many of the prophecies made by Brother Branham have also proven to be just as controversial as those which Jesus spoke 2000 years ago. If we learn anything from Scripture we have learned that whatever God does or says the Devil is present to challenge it and make it controversial. He'll try his best to get the people to believe his "lie" over God's "Truth". To accomplish this the Devil will find some way to put a "question mark (?)" over what God does or says. The message of God's servant and prophet, Bro. Branham, is no exception.

Under Satan's influence, men and women of all ages have doubted and questioned what God has spoken, in teaching and prophecy, through His servants the prophets. This Age is no different. What God has taught and prophesied through William Branham continues to be the subject of much controversy - even 35 years after his "going home". No prophecy is perhaps more challenged then that which he spoke concerning the year 1977.

In this link we want to present ALL that Brother said about 1977 and come to a satisfactory conclusion, with absolute assurance, we will determine whether the prophecy is True or False. I am not responsible for what others have said or done in light of "their" understanding of What Brother Branham said about 1977. I am only responsible for the factual statements which the prophet made from 1933 through to 1965. God forbid that we should mis-represent the facts and accuse the Prophet of saying which he did not say.

The first tape recorded reference to the year 1977 is in the following message preached in 1960.....

Condemnation By representation - 11/13/60
"Then I seen the United States as one smoldering, burnt-over place. It will be near the end." Then I've got in parenthesis ("I predict that this will take place")... NOW REMEMBER, THE LORD NEVER..... that's what the Lord showed, but "I" PREDICT this will take place before 1977". Upon this PREDICTION, I base, because of the onrushing onslaught that's coming - how fast that it was moving, how long it'll take 'til this nation meets its place.

Editor's Note: Let's note two things in this paragraph - failure to understand this will led to a total mis-understanding and mis-representation of what Brother Branham is saying. Notice that Brother Branham makes it clear that "the Lord NEVER told him" anything about 1977. He clearly states that "based" on what the Lord "showed" him (NOT told him), he (as a private student of the Word, and NOT by Divine inspiration) "predicted" that certain things would take place by 1977. As we shall see in later comments, Brother Branham made a difference between a "prediction" and a "prophecy". Regardless of what some might think about these two terms, Brother Branham understood a "prediction" to be a "human assumption" based on "human" understanding of certain events, etc.. Whereas, he understood a "prophecy" to be a "Divinely Anointed 'Thus Saith The Lord' utterance", regardless of "human" understanding.

Understanding that Brother Branham's statement about 1977 was a "prediction" and NOT a "Prophecy" does not annul the significance of the the "prediction". We shall see that 1977 was an important year in prophecy. We DO NOT have to explain anything away or re-interpret anything - just pay 'close' attention to what the prophet said.

Other statements Brother Branham made about 1977 are as follows...

Angel Of God - 03/04/48
Don't no one go away from here now, and say, "Brother Branham said it's ten years to the rapture." I do not know; nobody does. Not even the Angels of heaven knows. I don't know. But I know it's getting awful near, for the signs that He said would be taking place. He said, "It'd be even at the door." And we're getting them right now.

Conference - 11/25/60
Then I turned to look and I seen the United States was a smoldering something had burned it up, and down beneath there I said (not in the trance) but I predict... Remember this. I guess this is taped too. I PREDICT that these things will take place between now 1933 and 1977 which will give us sixteen more years "IF" MY prediction strikes right.

Ephesian Church Age - 12/05/60
Then after the Ephesian Church Age, from A.D. 53 until A.D. 170, then started in the Smyrna Church Age which lasted from A.D. 170 until A.D. 312. Then come in the Pergamos Church Age, and the Pergamos Church Age begin at 312 and lasted till A.D. 606. Then come in the Thyatira Church Age, and the church age of Thyatira begin at 606 and went to 1520, the Dark Ages. And then the Sardis Church Age begin at 1520 and lasted till 1750, the Lutheran age. Then from 1750, the next age come in was the Philadelphian, Wesley age; that begin at 1750 and lasted till 1906. And at 1906 the Laodicean Church Age set in, and I don't know when it'll end, but I predict it'll be done by 1977. I PREDICT, NOT THE LORD TOLD ME, but I predict it according to a vision that was showed me some years ago, that, five (out of the seven) of those things has already taken place.

Editor's Note: Again, Brother Branham makes it clear that "The Lord NEVER told him" what he was saying about 1977. Based on prophecy fulfilled and prophecy yet to be fulfilled, Brother Branham made his predictions concerning 1977. Looking back over the years, his personal predictions (not prophecies) are pretty well on target. Like Brother Branham, we also believe that the Laodicean Age (this last age) went into Total Darkness around 1977. A few years ago I read a letter published by a ministering brother in the United States - He does not follow Brother Branham's message BUT in his discussion on prophecy and the year 1977 he quoted several well known Evangelists (among them, Billy Graham, Oral Roberts and William Branham), also world leaders, and all were in agreement that 1977 was a turning point in history.) Also, in 1957, Brother Branham told a Brother C. S. that after 1977 he saw nothing but total darkness for the church world.

This statement to Brother C. S. dovetails with what Brother Branham said in a message he preach in 1960, entitled, "The Laodicean Church Age....

The Laodicean Church Age - 12/11/60e
We believe that the Laodicean church started in A.D. 1906. I predict - Now remember, "predict," especially you listening at the tape. I DON'T SAY IT WILL BE, but predict that it will end by 1977, that the church will go completely into apostasy and she will be ousted out of the mouth of God (Rev. 3:16). And the Second Coming, or the Rapture of Christ, might come ANYTIME. Now, I COULD MISS that a year, I CAN MISS it twenty years, I COULD MISS it a hundred years. I don't know - But I just predict that according to a vision He showed me, and taking the time, the way it's progressing, I say it'll be sometime between '33 and '77. At least, this great nation is going to strike a war that's going to blow it to bits, see. Now that's pretty close, it's awful close. And I COULD BE WRONG, I'm predicting. Everybody understands that, "amen" me. [Congregation says, "Amen!"--Ed.] See?

Editor's Note: Brother Branham couldn't make it any more clear. He knew that 1977 would be a turning point in the history of the church and the world. We've got to understand that to "see" what Brother Branham was getting at we must needs "get in the Spirit" and look through the eyes of the prophet, who is looking through the eyes of God. The prophet, like the God He represents, sees the cup full before it is filled. The Lord allowed His prophet to see the future but withheld the full and complete knowledge of certain events from His servant. But the prophet, in his "predictions" was correctly focused in on the target.

The quote which most people are familiar with is that which is found on page 322 of the book, "The Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages", published in 1965. What Brother Branham had said in 1960 and 1961 concerning his prediction for "1977" was (by another Brother) transcribed from magnetic tape and worded as follows:

The Laodicean Church Age - 12/11/60e
(Chapt. 9 - Church Age Book - Published 1965)
(Finishing his rehearsal of his 1933 Seven Major Visions Brother Branham says....) The last and seventh vision was wherein I heard a most terrible explosion. As I turned to look I saw nothing but debris, craters, and smoke all over the land of America.

Based on these seven visions, along with the rapid changes which have swept the world in the last fifty years, I PREDICT (I do not prophesy) that these visions will have all come to pass by 1977. And though many may feel that this is an irresponsible statement in view of the fact that Jesus said that 'no man knoweth the day nor the hour.' I still maintain this prediction after thirty years because, Jesus did NOT say no man could know the year, month or week in which His coming was to be completed. So I repeat, I sincerely believe and maintain as a private student of the Word, along with Divine inspiration that 1977 ought to terminate the world systems and usher in the millennium. Now let me say this. Can anyone prove any of those visions wrong? Were they not all fulfilled? Yes, each one has been fulfilled, or is in the process right now.

Editor's Note: Again, Brother Branham insists that he is NOT making a "Thus Saith The Lord" Prophesy", but rather a "personal prediction". And according to events which have since unfolded we can honestly say that the world systems are in the process of being terminated, and the millennium is being ushered in. To deny this is to deny Bible prophecy fulfilled in this Age - prophecy which almost ALL prophecy teachers and Evangelical Bible preachers agree on. These fulfilled prophecies all point to the reality that God is (and has been since 1977) "terminating" the world systems and "ushering in" the millennium.

To the Spiritual ear, heart and eye, there is nothing out of order - on the contrary, everything is exactly on target with the Scriptures. To the critic, this will always be a "false" prophecy because they have neither the eye to see Spiritual things, nor the ear to hear Spiritual things, nor the heart to believe it. No matter what Jesus did or said in His day, the Sadducees and Pharisees would not believe - their religious training had blinded them to Truth. Yet, an ill-famed woman at Jacob's well, with five husbands in her past and a common law husband at home, recognized the "Messiah Sign", discerning the thoughts and intents of her heart; and immediately she recognized the Messiah had not only come but He had come to her.

The following quotes are from a series of Messages preached by Brother Branham in 1961.....

The Seventy Weeks Of Daniel - 08/06/61
And here it comes around and shows, and then I predicted - I NEVER SAID THE LORD TOLD ME THAT, but standing that morning in the church, I said, "The way progress is going on, I will predict that that'll all happen between right now, 1933, and 1977. And not knowing it, God knows my heart, I never knew it until yesterday, that 1977 is the Jubilee, and exactly the same amount of time run out that He give with Israel and everything at the end. So we're here we are at the end of the age, at the coming in of the seventieth week. We don't know what time that the Church will be gone. Oh, my! What can we do, friends? Where are we at?

The Seventy Weeks Of Daniel - 08/06/61
Now, I do not want anyone to go away misunderstanding this. Tape's still playing. I don't want anyone to misunderstand it. DON'T MISUNDERSTAND ME NOW, AND SAY, "Brother Branham said Jesus will come in 1977." I NEVER SAID NO SUCH A THING. Jesus may come today. But I have predicted that between '33 and '77 something would take place, that these things that I seen come to pass in the vision would take place. And five of them has already took place.

Again, no one is justified in labeling William Branham a false prophet, based of what he said about 1977. Of course, in the eyes of some Brother Branham will always be a 'false prophet'. No amount of proof to the contrary will change their minds - not even God can change their way of thinking. But "...they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear (for they are a rebellious house), yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them" (Ezekiel 2:5).

Other Events Of 1977

In 1977 significant events were taking place in the Middle East. Israel is God's time-piece. When you see Scripture being fulfilled in Israel, then know that the End of all things is at the door. In 1977 things reached a turning point [in Israel] with the election of Menahem Begin (of the Likud Party) as the Prime Minister of Israel, May 17, 1977. On June 21, 1977 he took over the reigns of power from Yitzhak Rabin. The Labor party. which had ruled Israel from 1948 to 1977 was defeated. Menahem Begin was a man of strong religious character, and in the eyes of many he was a fanatic. His political policies had strong religious overtones.

A few months before Begin took power in Israel the United States inaugurated a President who was also of a strong religious character - In January 1977 Jimmy Carter became President. America would NEVER again have a President with such strong religious convictions. He was needed at this time in 1977 to work with Begin of Israel and Sadat of Egypt. It is unfortunate that somewhere along the way Mr. Carter come under a spirit of deception which has blinded him to the "plan" and "purpose" of God for Israel. His actions in defending the PA and criticizing Israel clearly prove the Truth of Jesus' words: "If the Light you have becomes darkness; how great is that darkness." Matthew 6:22.

A number of events unfolded during the first few months of Begin's leadership. He brought the West Bank over full Israeli control declaring that it was "liberated territory", permitting the area to be settled by Israelis. Since the Premiership of Menahem Begin the Middle East situation has never been the same.

Another very important even of 1977 was the visit of Anwar Sadat, President of Egypt, to Israel in November 1977. During his visit he addressed the Israeli Knesset. This was not only the highlight of 1977 but a highlight of the decade and of the over 50 years since the re-establishment of the State of Israel. Time after time Begin stunned the world with his actions. Indeed, he was a shooting star on the world stage. He fulfilled his predestinated purpose in God's plan for Israel and then went away.

According to Britannica, religious authority was put to the test many times, in many places, and in different ways in 1977. Battles took place in civil courts, ecclesiastical courts, and in the court of public opinion. Church - State tensions began to surface in 1977, not only in America but around the world. Christianity was being challenged as governments sought to bring Christians subject to secular authority in things contrary to Christian Biblical teaching. The hostility which surfaced in 1977, toward the Gospel of Christ has continued to escalate. Readers Digest did an article on "The Global War On Christians".

The list of examples of mild to extreme persecution of Christians (in both western and third world countries) is long. A permissive western society and non-Christian third world societies resent the witness of Christianity which contradicts their sinful deeds and/or their false religions. In his book "The New Tolerance", published by Tyndale, Josh MacDowell writes, "We may very well wake up in the not-to-distant future in a culture that is not only unreceptive but openly hostile to the church, a culture in which those who proclaim the Gospel will be labeled as bigots and fanatics, a culture in which persecution of Christians will not only be allowed but applauded".

McDowell's predictions are already a reality for Christian Believers in many parts of the world. Unfortunately, they are rapidly becoming a reality for people in the West, including the United States of America and Canada. All this is taking place under the noses of governments proclaiming their commitment to basic human rights. One obvious reason these governments "ignore" this cruel treatment of Christians and refuse to crack down on countries involved is because they fear the possible economic repercussions. Money is the bottom line; and governments are willing to sacrifice even 'freedom of Christianity' to secure the bottom line. Even when it comes to persecution, it's Okay to conduct business as usual with the Devil.

On September 29, 1999, House Majority Leader Dick Armey spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. He expressed serious concerns about the treatment of conservative Christians in the United States. Mr. Armey stated, "Tonight I regret to say that one area where we're losing ground is our treatment of religious believers. We are witnessing a rising level of bigotry against people of faith, especially Christians...In case after case, people of faith are told to mind their own business, keep to themselves and stay out of the affairs of the rest of society". A Jewish author, Don Feder noted in his book "A Jewish Conservative Looks At Pagan America" (Huntington House), that "Christians are the only group Hollywood can offend with impunity, the only creed it actually goes out of it's way to insult...the tenets of Christianity are regularly held up to ridicule".

In 1977 the seeds of rebellion against Christianity and Christian principles began to sprout forth. 1977 was called the "age of litigation" in church and in society. The ever-increasing permissive society of the 1960's and early 70's caused the authority, teachings and principles of Christianity to be put on trial. More and more, those who propose and practice a more permissive way of life seek to undermine the influence of the teachings of Jesus Christ. This has produced a compromised Charismatic form of Christianity with no power. Finally, in a New World Order there will be no place allowed for a living, Holy Spirit-led Evangelical Christianity. This age is guilty of crucifying Christ again.

Again, proving this, Britannica drives home this point, stating "Suddenly, in 1977, events around the world brought home to Americans an awareness of the repression of believers.....To many Americans words like persecution, torturer, martyrdom, and pogrom had belonged to remote Christian and Jewish pasts. NOW they began to learn that the realities these words represent are very much present in today's (1977) world.

In 1977 many churches experienced changes - they would never be the same. A new generation had arisen - demanding less interference by the the teachings of Christianity in their personal lives. A modern, lifeless form of Christianity was evolving, fulfilling the Words of Jesus, "When the Son of Man comes will He find Faith on the earth?".

Also, in 1977, the prophesied "Days of Sodom" (Luke 17:26-29; Romans 1:21-28) began to emerge as "identifiable groups" (homosexuals, etc.) seeking protection, "rights" under secular law and freedom from discrimination.

These are but a few of the important things which happened in 1977. There are many others, but to take each one, explain it's significance and tie it together with prophecy would take pages. I have noted these things above because it has to do with Israel and the Church - both play an important part in Biblical prophecy and the plan of God. The Bible does speak clearly concerning the restoration of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6; Ezekiel 37), the condition of the church (Rev. 3:14-22) and difficult times (2nd Tim. 3:1-8,12; 1st. Tim. 4:1; 2nd Peter 3:3-4; 1st. John 2:18) for Christian believers in the last days.

A disastrous blackout hits West Chester County and New York City - July 13, 1977. This was only signifying a spiritual blackout in America, as churches began to cave in to outside pressure and compromise.

The worst disaster in aviation history took place in the Canary Islands, March 1977 - 582 persons were killed.

Leonid Brezhnev became President of Russia in May 24 1977. He was really the last of the "old guard" of Soviet Communism. Within a few years the Soviet Union would crumble.

On August 16, 1977, the "king" of rock and roll died - Elvis Presley. He was responsible for ushering in a new era of music. With curled lip and gyrating hips he took many young men and women on a hell bound ride. Unfortunately, his influence in the music world continues to this day, even to influencing and changing the style of Gospel Music from old fashioned spiritual singing and rejoicing in the Spirit, to snapping fingers, tapping toes, and swaying bodies - moved by the music and not the Holy Spirit.

Southern Baptist Evangelist Billy Graham was embarrassed in 1977 when the Charlotte Observer discovered an undisclosed $23 million fund in Texas, apparently not mentioned in the accountings of the Minneapolis headquarters of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

In 1977 Senator Mark Hatfield informed a group of evangelical leaders that if they did not assume responsibility for regulating themselves there was every likelihood that legislation would be required. In fact, Congressman Charles Wilson of Texas had already introduced a bill that would have required disclosure "at the point of solicitation."

In December 1977 representatives of thirty-two evangelical groups met in Chicago to discuss cooperative efforts. Thomas Getman, chief legislative assistant to Senator Hatfield, told the group, "Legislation is not important; disclosure is." Getman encouraged "a voluntary disclosure program . . . that will preclude the necessity of federal intervention into the philanthropic and religious sector."

God alone knows ALL that happened in 1977. It was a turning point for many who profess to believe that the Ministry and Message of William Branham was God-Sent to call the End Time Bride, get her ready for the Rapture and show her Rapturing Faith in the Word. In 1977 a few of the ministering brethren began to move beyond the revelation of "God sent a prophet", into the deeper revelations of "The Message" which was calling attention to the Coming of Christ, the Resurrection and the Rapture.

Where is your attention focused right now - A church, an Evangelist, A Creed, OR are you focused on recognizing the Coming of Christ for His Bride, the Resurrection and the Change of our Bodies????? May God, by His Grace help us to catch the Revelation of these things.
